Under.standing

The exhibition explores the notion of understanding in the title, both in terms of relations based on it and those that lack it – from the general idea functioning in the social and political dimensions, to the literal meaning of this word, which expresses itself in the way the OpenHUB Europe project is carried out. One of the levels of looking at the title is an actual, individual exchange between artists. The activities of ArtBrut Gallery are based on the idea of collaboration between already recognised artists functioning in the institutional and commercial sphere of art with those exposed to social exclusion. This in turn corresponds with the character of one of the exhibition venues, which is MiserArt culture centre for the homeless. Stepping beyond the walls of the conventional gallery space we want to reach out to the local community by meeting on the common ground. Finally, Under.standing is the basis on which this very project came to realisation. One of its assumptions was a collaborative work of members of institutions representing very different artistic profiles and involved in different kinds of activities. The last of four exhibitions, taking place in Wrocław, will provide space to share the experience of common work and evaluate the outcome of it.
